Introduction: Heart failure is one of the most prevalent diseases worldwide. Despite advances in treatment over time, mortality and morbidity from this condition remain high. Heart transplantation is one of the most common treatment options, but not all patients are candidates for transplantation. It is in this context that left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) have emerged as an alternative and life-saving measure; however, there is little data on the effects of device implantation on the person's quality of life.
Objective/s: To determine the effectiveness of LVAD in improving the quality of life of people with end-stage heart failure.
Methods: A systematic review of effectiveness with meta-analysis will be carried out using the method proposed by the Joanna Briggs Institute and has been registered in PROSPERO: no. CRD42024588277. The proposed research question is: what is the effectiveness of LVAD in improving the quality of life of people with terminal heart failure? The selection of studies, data extraction and synthesis will be carried out by two independent reviewers.
Results: We plan to include several studies that address the effectiveness of VAD in improving the quality of life of people with terminal heart failure.
Conclusion: This review aims to synthesise the existing evidence on the effectiveness of VAD in improving the quality of life of people with terminal heart failure.
