Introduction: Vertical positions during labor are more beneficial and the World Health Organization recommends that the woman in labor choose the position to be adopted, and it is essential that she is informed.
Objective: This scoping review aims to map scientific evidence regarding women’s knowledge about the positions they can adopt during labor and birth.
Methods: The methodology proposed by the Joanna Briggs Institute was followed. The main sources of information searched were PubMed/ MEDLINE, CINAHL Complete, Cochrane Central Register, considering all articles without temporal restrictions. And where the participants were women, and the concept was knowledge of the positions that women can adopt during the first and second stages of eutocic labor.
Results: Six studies were obtained, most of which reveal that women have little knowledge about vertical positions to adopt during childbirth.
Conclusion: Even women with previous births, and/or with professional assistance during pregnancy, have knowledge deficits regarding the positions they can adopt during the first and second stages of labor. It is suggested that during prenatal surveillance information be transmitted to pregnant women regarding the different positions they can adopt during labor. And that training on the topic is provided to health professionals who assist women.
