Abstract

Introduction: Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) is a leading cause of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, requiring a prompt and effective clinical response.

Objective: This study aimed to characterize the risk factors associated with individuals diagnosed with ACS admitted to the emergency department of a Local Health Unit in northern Portugal.

Method: It is a retrospective, quantitative, and descriptive study conducted between January to December 2022, involving a sample of 40 individuals.

Results: The mean age was 74.4 years, and 60% were male. The most prevalent risk factors were hypertension (80%), dyslipidemia (47.5%), and diabetes mellitus (45%). The most frequent type of ACS identified was non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (72.5%). Most individuals were classified as priority/orange in the Manchester Triage Protocol.

Conclusion: The results highlight the importance of early recognition and targeted intervention for the most common risk factors, underlining the key role of healthcare professionals in implementing preventive measures in the hospital setting.
