Tourism planning in Cariri Cearense: Integration and responsible development

This paper presents a study of the tourism planning in central Cariri, located in the state of Ceará, in Northeast Brazil. Region with very special cultural and environmental characteristics, it has great potential for the development of different types of tourism. Using the information collected invisits, interviews, documentary and literature searches we present here some considerations about the tourism planning and its relation to the ideals of responsible and sustainable tourism; a brief characterization of the analyzed towns and some reflexions about actions that must be performed in order to the tourism could be an element of integration and sustainable development of the region
