Resumo

Sendo o transporte aéreo um dos principais meios de transporte utilizados na chegada à Região Autónoma da Madeira (RAM), fruto da sua insularidade, será importante avaliar qual o contributo que a infraestrutura aeroportuária tem tido no desenvolvimento turístico da região, assim como, na imagem e na perceção dos passageiros sobre o destino e na sua futura vontade de regressar. A presente investigação, de carácter exploratório, pretende, assim, compreender a relação existente entre os serviços aeroportuários, a sua qualidade e a satisfação junto dos passageiros e o seu papel catalisador na experiência turística dos visitantes à RAM. Os inquéritos e entrevistas realizados evidenciam que, para muitos dos inquiridos, o aeroporto não é apenas o lugar de chegada e partida, mas sim, o início e o fim da experiência turística no destino.
