Abstract

The aim of the present study was to analyze the relationship between flexibility and speed of running in taekwondo and athletics practitioners. Sixty young athletes were enrolled in the study. 30 taekwondo practitioners (12.10 ± 0.55 years old, 19 boys and 11 girls) and 30 athletes, with emphasis on running (13.07 ± 1.91 years of age, 18 boys and 12 girls). All completed the sit and reach test with both lower limbs and a 40-meter sprint. Among practitioners of the same sports modality, significant differences were observed in limb flexibility, right and left only in athletics. At the level of flexibility, significant differences (p <0.01) were observed in both limbs between sports taekwondo and athletics, such as sprint. Assessing the control of pre-pubertal training is very important in order to monitor the multiannual evolution of physical capacities and to avoid, in particular, injuries.
