Abstract

Arterial hypertension is a chronic disease and a public health problem. Nurses through empowerment can enable individuals to adopt healthy behaviors. A Scoping Review was developed with the question what are the nursing interventions in the empowerment of the aged with arterial hypertension? The research was accomplished with MeSH descriptors, combining the research strategy: Nurs* AND Empowerment AND Aged OR Hypertension. Articles published between 03/01/2014 to 03/31/2019 were searched in reference databases. The selection process of the studies was developed in accordance with the PRISMA 2009 Flow Diagram, ensuring their methodological quality. In the obtained evidences it was identified that the empowerment approach is fundamental in the nursing interventions for the aged with arterial hypertension, in a way of increasing self-care and self-sufficiency, enabling people to adopt healthy behaviors in the areas of nutrition, management medication and physical activity.
