Abstract

There are several methods of controlling pain in labor, pharmacological or otherwise. Women seek information to take control of labor, including less invasive methods. This research aims to identify unconventional therapeutic strategies used during labor to control pain. Based on the methodology of the scoping review, the analysis of an article on acupuncture and acupressure, extraction and synthesis of the data was carried out. From this study it was found that the use of these methods contributes to the reduction of pain scores evaluated, the use of pharmacological methods for pain control and labor time. It is concluded that, with the advancement of science, women report having less autonomy, decision-making capacity and less information on ways to facilitate normal labor. Hence the importance of the applicability of these techniques by the nurses who are in contact with the parturient.
