Following the foundation of Nova Colónia do Sacramento, in 1680, and the struggle over the control of the River Plate's bassin, during the reign of John V, between the War of the Spanish Succession and the sign of the Treaty of Madrid, in 1750, many were the times in which the Azorean people offered themselves or were called to have a central role in the Portuguese settlement along the south-brazilian coasts. The aim of this article is to present a brief survey of those migrations that took place within the overseas policy of John Vis reign and had the support of the Overseas Council.
