Abstract

The change of the Portuguese political regime brought by the 5 th October 1910 republican revolution has imposed, naturally, the transformation of the subjacent constitutional context. In August 1911, a new Constitution was approved; however, we can’t forget the large number of projects presented at that time, written by authors representing several political-ideological tendencies. One of these projects was presented by Fernão Botto Machado, distinguished solicitor in Lisbon. In this article, we will try to put in evidence the most important particularities of his text, by the comparison with the final version of the Republican Constitution of 1911, hoping to demonstrate the original nature of the project idealized by that notable figure of the Portuguese First Republic.
