Abstract

In the current context of online education and the rapid popularization of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the reliability of formal assessment has become a crucial challenge. This paper aims to analyze the landscape of assessment in an online learning environment and examine the challenges that arise in the era of AI with assessment models applied in foreign language disciplines. The main purpose is to demonstrate how emerging technologies can improve and transform traditional methods of assessment while addressing ethical and privacy concerns associated with the use of AI. First, the opportunities offered by online assessment are discussed. Challenges related to the authenticity and integrity of online assessments, as well as equity and accessibility, will also be addressed. Secondly, the role of AI in the assessment process, specifically in language teaching, is analyzed. Ethical concerns and potential misuses of AI by students in assessment are also highlighted, as well as the importance of human oversight and transparency in these processes. In summary, the present work aims to question assessment in a completely online context, taking into account the influence of AI, both in the learning process and in the complementary process of assessment.
