Challenges of a mobile-based in-service teacher training model in Mozambique: a project with a future?

Abstract

This article describes research conducted to obtain the master degree on e-learning pedagogy. The authors present and discuss a Mozambican experience of using mobile devices in on-the-job and distance training of Primary and Secondary Education teachers. adult educators. The article analyses the technical-methodological and didactic limitations of the pedagogical team of the provider institution and the implementers at provincial, district and school level; it also reports about the technological shortcomings and confronts the results of the analysis with the intention of using tablets and smartphones in the implementation of a course on-the-job and distance training for primary school teachers and adult educators. In the context of this analysis, a qualitative, exploratory, descriptive and interpretative study was carried out in the context of a project aiming to promote the positive impact of the use of mobile devices in the training of Primary Education teachers and practicing adult educators, through Distance Education. This study led to the conclusion, among other aspects, that although teachers are aware of the pedagogical advantages of m-learning, they need training for the use of mobile devices in learning.
