Abstract

In the field of Spanish as a Foreign Language (SFL), the lexical component is commonly approached from a synchronic perspective—an elective that often postpones the analysis of morphological genesis and productivity. This paper validates the use of Digital Humanities and linguistic corpora to enhance the lexical competence of intermediate and advanced learners through the study of suffixes. Specifically, the research focuses on the morphemes -ción, -dad, -oso, and -ear, selected for their high profitability and dynamism in contemporary Spanish. From a methodological standpoint, the study proposes a Data-Driven Learning (DDL) model that integrates reference repositories such as CORPES XXI and CODEA, alongside the Corpus of Learners of Spanish (CAES). Furthermore, it incorporates text mining and visualization tools, such as AntConc and Voyant Tools, to map the evolution and frequency of these derivatives. The results suggest that this technological approach boosts student autonomy in the acquisition of complex units, facilitates the discovery of semantic relationships, and consolidates an empirical and meaningful methodology within the SFL classroom.
