Training parents of children with autism spectrum disorder during the diagnosis phase

Introduction: The diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder in children is a demanding and complex process for families. The information and training provided at the time of diagnosis has a significant impact on family life.
Objective: To map the scientific evidence on strategies for developing the skills of parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder at diagnosis.
Methods: Scoping Review based on the methodology of the Joanna Briggs Institute®. The search was carried out in the MEDLINE Complete, CINAHL Complete, Cochrane Nursing & Allied Health Collection: Comprehensive, Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts, Portuguese Open Access Scientific Repositories and the Virtual Health Library, with no time limit. The research protocol is registered on the Open Science Framework platform (https://doi.org/10.17605/OSF.IO/HVUA8).
Results: Six articles were analyzed, highlighting strategies for empowering parents, related to knowledge about the pathological process, strategies for dealing with behavior and support networks for parenting.
Conclusion: The study reinforces the need for greater investment in this area, underlining the importance of the practical application of the strategies identified.
