Abstract

Introduction: The type of attachment that children form in childhood influences all their relationships in adulthood, but several factors can interfere with the development of this bond. Despite the care that nurses provide to families from birth, there are gaps in the literature regarding clinical indicators that characterize attachment and the parental adaptation process.

Objective: To map the available evidence on bonding in children up to 3 years of age that is useful for the design of nursing care.

Methods: This review will be guided by the JBI scoping review methodology. Publications will be identified in the MEDLINE Complete, CINAHL Complete (all via EBSCOhost), Web of Science, and Scopus. and studies published from 2009 onwards will be included, with no language restrictions. The identification, selection of studies and data extraction will be performed by two independent reviewers.

Results:  This scoping review will be fundamental in synthesising relevant clinical evidence to support nurses' decision-making in promoting bonding with children up to 3 years of age, thereby formalising the knowledge involved in the design of nursing care.

Conclusion: This review will be indicative of relevant clinical evidence to support nurses' decision-making in child bonding up to 3 years.
