Abstract

In group fitness classes instructors should adopt feedback behaviour according with participants preferences, in order to promote learning, motivation, satisfaction and, consequently, adhesion to exercise (Franco & Simões, 2017). The aim of this study was to characterize preferences of elderly participants, from Aquafitness classes, about instructor’s feedback. A total of 218 elderly participated in this study. A Fitness Instructor’s Feedback Questionnaire (Simões, Rodrigues, Alves & Franco, 2013) was applied. It was verified that elderly participants prefer that the instructors give feedback: directed to the class, informing how to do the exercise, refer the breathing, about each exercise separately, using verbal form, while participants are doing the exercise and instructor is close to them, doing the same exercise, facing the participants (mirror position), showing positive affectivity, and after the instructor give feedback should observe the participants and then give another feedback.
