Abstract

This essay has as a subject a particular group of people: the elderly and the ageing societies. In several texts has been enhanced an essential gap in the art of care related to the elderly. A major challenge exists if the elderly suffer from severe neurodegenerative diseases and, which is common, in a specific group within this major one: the very elderly. Our modest purpose is to analyse the ageing societies, the political and legal treatment in some human rights chosen texts from the United Nations regarding this gap. Considering that the Humanitude philosophy and the Gineste Marescotti Methodology have developed a caring philosophy related to the elderly, with this kind of diseases, it seems necessary to see in which way it contributes to helping to fill this gap. This essay was held during a lecture in an open class at a master course taught in the Portucalense University in Oporto. Therefore it is informal and with very few footnotes. Indeed the power points which were shown during the open class grounds this text. Finally, we shall inform that all elements were delivered to those students.

Key-Words: Ageing Societies; the art of care; Humanitude, Gineste-Marescotti Methodology.
