This work aims to build a panorama of the organization of Brazilian basketball between 1989 and 2008 in order to understand the elements that influenced the crisis of the sport culminating in the loss of the public, sponsors and the poor results of the national teams. This overview was constructed through the Critical Discourse Analysis of the coverage of the presidents of the Brazilian Basketball Confederation (CBB) and of the coaches of the Brazilian adult team (women’s and men’s), published in the newspapers of the period. It is possible to conclude that the transformations in Brazilian sport allied with internal management problems contribute to the poor results of the national team and the disorganization of the national championship.
