Assisted stretching is a prevalent practice in exercise and fitness settings, frequently employed to enhance flexibility, facilitate recovery, and promote relaxation. However, the absence of standardised methodological guidelines has constrained its professional credibility and raised concerns regarding practitioner safety, client comfort, and inappropriate physical proximity. Furthermore, conventional methods often depend heavily on manual force and intrusive body positioning, which may undermine both the effectiveness and ethical standards of the practice. This research note introduces a structured methodological framework for operationalising assisted stretching techniques. The framework is based on four core principles: minimising unnecessary physical contact through clear communication and informed consent; adopting non-intrusive, outward practitioner positioning to respect personal space and enhance postural safety; defining the force-applying and control hands relative to the client’s medial line; and prioritising the use of the practitioner’s body weight over isolated arm strength to apply stretching force efficiently and safely. Illustrative examples and practical applications demonstrate that the proposed approach enables assisted stretching to be performed with reduced physical intrusion, improved biomechanical efficiency, and enhanced safety for both practitioners and clients, including scenarios with significant differences in body mass. This methodological proposal seeks to establish assisted stretching as a credible professional technique by promoting ethical practice, technical consistency, and a more favourable external perception within exercise and rehabilitation contexts.
