The practice based research calls for transdisciplinarity among several fields of science and also for 'reverse communication' between society and researchers.
Macau is a densely populated urban area. Green spaces are rare and children's contact with natural ecosystems, agriculture and food production is uncommon. Aligning with practice based research, a master thesis on urban agriculture in Macau-SAR uses as case study a project in the Portuguese School of Macau. This subject links urban agriculture, food production, childrens education, environmental awareness. The motivations of the school community about an urban agriculture project in their school was assessed through a questionnaire. 170 students, aged 6-15 and 30 teachers participated in the survey. The surprise and doubts about the project were surpassed and the idea has conquered minds. The lack of space to create the school garden was overcomed with the ´help´of the Hato typhoon, wich destroy some walls permiting the reconversion of a marginal area. The school garden has become a participative project envolving the school community and children's parents. The 1st cycle students are colectivelly seedling and planting vegetables and little fruit trees and maintaining a garden in their school.
It can be concluded that transdisciplinarity research based on real-world problems enhance the co-production of knowledge and the joint action to transform the society.
