Pre-hospital emergency care (EPH) plays a crucial role in the healthcare system, providing immediate and critical care that influences patient outcomes. In Portugal, although participation in EPH is not mandatory in anesthesiology training, anesthesiology residents have a significant presence in Medical Emergency and Resuscitation Vehicles (VMER). This study, based on an anonymous survey of 193 anesthesiology residents, aims to explore the motivations, challenges, and perceptions of these professionals regarding EPH. The results show that the majority of residents value EPH as an essential component of their training, highlighting the acquisition of skills in medical emergencies, rapid decision-making, and interdisciplinary work. Significant challenges include unsupervised responsibility and the unpredictability of the pre-hospital environment. Pre-hospital emergency care appears to be an area of great interest for anesthesiology residents, who emphasize its importance in the acquisition of technical skills as well as non technical skills.
