The research aimed to verify if the digital games inserted in the school context can contribute to the improvement of the problem-solving capacity of students from the early years of elementary school. The research is characterized as a quasiexperimental mixed approach and had the participation of 42 children between eight and nine years old, from a federal public school in Florianópolis, Brazil, organized in two groups, one control and one experimental. The results indicated that the use of cognitive games of the School of the Brain contributed to the improvement of problemsolving, besides generating other important cognitive practices for the learning process, such as attention, working memory, logical reasoning, among others. In addition, it was observed that digital games provided students with more motivating learning, leading them to plan their problem-solving strategies with greater attention to the information stored in working memory. From this, it is concluded that the use of teaching applications can contribute to the diversification of the school curriculum, contributing to the improvement of important cognitive learning skills.
