In recent decades, Portuguese schools have been welcoming students from different social, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, providing multilingual and multicultural classrooms. It is in this context that the international Erasmus+ Reinventing Mainstream Classrooms (RE.MA.C.) project has emerged, involving Cyprus, Greece, Malta and Italy, European countries that, similarly to Portugal, face the enormous challenge of meeting the needs of migrant students. The aim of RE.MA.C is to provide equal educational opportunities for all, in the classroom, and in different subjects such as Natural Sciences and Portuguese. In addition, modern pedagogical approaches highlight the importance of using active teaching, learning and assessment methodologies in favour of successful education. Therefore, this study focuses on the application of the Station Rotation Model to the learning of Natural Sciences contents, namely the animal biodiversity content, in a 5th year class, articulating activities with different degrees of complexity, adjusted to the students' language levels of proficiency. Using a qualitative methodology, the aim is to understand whether this Station Rotation Model promotes the inclusion of all students, the native speakers (N), A1, A2 and B1 level speakers in the target class. Data will be collected through naturalistic and participant observation, using field notes. This will be complemented by semi-structured interviews with the cooperating teacher before and after the pedagogical intervention, as well as an analysis of the students' works. As this study is still ongoing, it is not yet possible to get a full understanding of the application of this model. However, it can be seen that the activities implemented can be carried out by students with different levels of proficiency, articulating knowledge about animal biodiversity and language learning.
