Abstract

Currently, the growing influence of artificial intelligence (AI) in decision-making spaces drives reflections on human autonomy. Under this premise, this article aims to identify the constitutive elements of the concepts of “algorithmization of autonomy” and “autonomy over algorithmization”, based on the analysis of how they can be applied to favor the understanding of the relationship between AI and human self-determination. With a qualitative, exploratory and interpretative approach, as well as using a method based on bibliographic review, the study explores interdisciplinary contributions. As a result, the concepts were outlined both based on the process in which human decisions are shaped or replaced and in relation to the capacity of individuals to implement prominence over intelligent systems. In short, the understanding is that the concepts offer analytical tools favorable to the interpretation of the impacts of AI on autonomy.
