About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Interacções is a journal in electronic format, of free access, with continuous publication, which publishes three issues per year - regular or special/thematic -, composed of original and unpublished articles on research or theoretical reflection on cultures and arts, science, languages and literatures, didactics, sociology, psychology, administration, technologies seen in its relation with education. Only articles that fall within these fields of action of the journal will be accepted. The journal intends to become a privileged international space of interaction between different areas of knowledge, as well as to contribute to scientific knowledge and consolidation of the research carried out in these areas. Articles may be published in Portuguese, Spanish, English or French.

Apart from manuscripts submitted individually, Interactions accepts proposals for thematic issues.

Interactions subscribes to an inclusive conduct, and will refuse texts that apologise any kind of discrimination.

The journal authorizes and recommends its authors to self-archive the published version of their work in institutional scientific repositories.

Peer Review Process

All articles submitted for publication will be the object of a preliminary analysis by the Direction, whose criteria of acceptance for evaluation are the following:
a) respect for the editorial policies - of which we reiterate the originality of the work and a writing by the authors, without plagiarism, with due mention to the sources consulted;
b) full compliance with the conditions of submission;
c) explicit inscription of the manuscript's content in the journal's scientific areas;
d) conformity of the manuscript's content to the genological characteristics of a scientific article;
e) use of non-discriminatory content and/or language.
The articles accepted for evaluation will be subject to a blind peer review process, involving, at least, two expert opinions (national or foreign of recognized merit), selected by the direction or by the editor(s) of the issue, members or not of the permanent editorial board of the journal or by invitation. Throughout this process, the anonymity of both the authors and the reviewers of the articles is maintained.

Editorial Policy

Interacções is organized by volume, number and year and is published three times a year. Currently, it follows a continuous publication regime. It is also open to the edition of special issues when justified.
The journal accepts contributions in the following formats
a) Theoretical reflection or critical literature review: texts with contributions concerning original and innovative proposals/models and/or conceptual frameworks, contributing significantly to the reflection and discussion of knowledge in the journal's areas of activity;
b) Empirical studies/research and practices: texts of this format must present research and empirical studies carried out;
c) Praxis: texts that, with the proper theoretical references, translate reports with a critical reflection on experiences and innovations developed in various educational contexts.


For formats a) and b), texts should be between 8000 and 10000 words. For c), between 5000 and 7000 words.

Open Access Policy

Interacções journal is open access and is included in the Open Access Scientific Repositories of Portugal - RCAAP.
All its contents are available free of charge, without costs for the user and his institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, link to the full texts or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking the journal or the authors' prior permission, and the source must always be identified.
The journal assigns to each published article a DOI (Digital Object Identifier).

Journal History

"Interacções" ("Interactions") has been in operation since December 2005 and was born from an idea by Pedro Reis (at that time, a teacher at the Escola Superior de Educação do Instituto Politécnico de Santarém - ESE|IPSantarém). It is a publication of the ESE|IPSantarém that, before being integrated in the System for the Storage of Scientific Journals (SARC) developed by FCT, was published in electronic format in a platform developed by the Nónio team of the ESE|IPSantarém (a special thanks to Nuno Bordalo Pacheco, Teresa Pacheco, José Maurício and João Galego).

The coordination of the journal has changed during 2019. The direction of the journal which, until that date, was directed by Pedro Reis, from the Institute of Education of the University of Lisbon, with Helena Luís (ESE|IPSantarém) and Joana Campos (Escola Superior de Educação do Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa, CIES-IUL) as sub-directors, passed to a team of teachers from ESE|IPSantarém formed by Elisabete Linhares, Susana Colaço, Ana Loureiro, Helena Luís and Luísa Delgado. The sub-director Helena Luís left in December 2022, counting, from that time on, with a new sub-director: Maria Inês Cardoso (ESE|IPSantarém).

The current team has constituted a new editorial board and intends to continue the work developed so far, keeping all the rigour and quality that have guided Interacções. We count on the whole academic community, at national and international level, to continue offering a journal with the scientific quality that has characterized it.
