Enlightened by Anderson’s (2008) theory of online learning, we analyse, in this paper, university students’ attitudes, actions, and conditions in the context of online learning. The study is conducted based on data of students from the southern Africa region who, due to the covid-19 pandemic, adopted this modality of learning. The qualitative and quantitative approach is adopted. Results reveal that over 70% of students were/are not successful in the online learning process. Reasons behind difficulties in learning include incompatibility of students’ attitudes, actions, and conditions with the principles of online learning, be at socioeconomic level (pre-concepts, lack of moral readiness and equipment), be at the individual level (lack of students’ honesty, diligence, and commitment for the learning process). All these aspects, however, appeal to the necessity of students’, families’, and institutional change to adopt strategies and measures that allow a smooth online learning process.
