This quasi-experimental study examines the implementation and receptivity of an online course incorporating gamified and interactive activities and focusing on reading academic texts in English, as well as the evaluation of its effects on developing the reading proficiency in that language of 26 students in the field of Education (undergraduate and graduate) at the Federal University of Pará. The course preparation followed the guidelines of the Theory of Instructional Design and based on research about the integration of gamified and interactive activities into Education. Learning activities were made available on Moodle and free apps. The data were collected before (pretest) and at the end of the course (posttest and a course evaluation questionnaire). The comparative analyses of the mean scores revealed favorable results regarding the effects of the technological tools used. Likewise, the final evaluation questionnaire of the course evidenced the acceptance of the students regarding the proposed instructional design. Overall, the study was successful in the tested hypotheses and in signaling directions for future investigations.
