This article aims to describe the development of a research line devoted to the study of the infant's emotional regulation and the potential impact to the attachment organization during the first year of life. In order to reduce information, we analyzed studies carried out within the framework of the experimental Face to Face Still-Face paradigm developed by Edward Tronick and colleagues. Based on the history of the research performed with this procedure, some scientific milestones are described, from the report of the Still-Face effect to the description of the patterns of emotional regulation observed in the first 3 months of infant’s life. Last, the relation between emotional regulation behaviors/patterns and infant attachment quality is explored. Understanding these infant emotional processes is essential to promote practices supported by empirical evidence in early childhood intervention and education.
