Abstract

Pretende-se com este texto fazer uma breve reflexão sobre o papel da ciência, com especial ênfase nas ciências matemáticas e físicas, na obra literária de Júlio Verne, mas também sobre a importância do seu trabalho na divulgação do conhecimento científico. Júlio Verne viveu numa época em que ocorreram grandes desenvolvimentos científicos que afectaram a vida quotidiana das pessoas comuns. Encarado no século XX como um profeta da modernidade, Verne foi também um divulgador das descobertas e dos problemas científicos do seu tempo.
