The subject of volume 7, no. 1 of RE@D (Journal of Distance Education and eLearning) is distance master’s and doctoral courses. It is intended to promote the debate on the existence and research of distance postgraduate courses offered in Portugal and abroad.

The approaches presented may focus on aspects such as establishing partnerships and networks, the curricular structure of the courses, teaching staff, infrastructure, virtual learning environments, advisement, vacancies, advisor/advisee relationship, distance guidance advisement, tutoring, face-to-face support learning centers, learning assessment, quality control, and financial aspects.

The articles presented for this RE@D issue may adopt quantitative, qualitative, or mixed approaches.

The research methodologies may involve analysis of the legislation on the offer of distance learning master’s and doctoral courses in different countries; literature reviews on the subject; document analysis of selected courses; application of questionnaires and interviews to managers, professors, students, and alumni of these courses; direct observation and application of interviews in visits to institutions that offer these courses; and production of reports with analysis and synthesis of evaluations.

Among the expected results of the articles presented, the following can be mentioned: comparative tables between the legislation, the criteria, and the instruments of evaluation and quality control of distance master’s and doctoral courses in different countries; maps with the partnerships, networks and offers in associative forms of these courses abroad; reports with the analysis and synthesis of the evaluations carried out in these courses; compilations and evaluations of the leading technologies used in the selected courses; characterization of the faculty of the courses; and analysis of the type of content used in these courses.
