Abstract

Federated sport represents a non-formal educational context that can foster youth development. However, participation alone does not ensure positive outcomes. This study aimed to examine potential differences by gender, age group (U14 and U18), and federated sports participation or non-participation in developmental assets, satisfaction with sport, and sporting attitudes. The Developmental Assets Questionnaire, the Sports Attitudes Questionnaire, and the Sources of Satisfaction in Youth Sport Questionnaire were administered to 258 participants (mean age 14.41±1.97; 134 boys and 124 girls; 80 federated sports practitioners). Then, the ANOVA test was carried out for data analysis. Evidence indicates that gender influences social competencies, support, positive identity and internal and external assets, satisfaction and attitudes towards sport. Age group influences developmental assets and satisfaction in sport. Also, practising federated competition has a positive influence on developmental assets, satisfaction and attitudes towards sport.
