This article aimed to map studies investigating the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) by students in special educational. To this end, a sequential explanatory systematic review was conducted in accordance with the stages set out in the PRISMA protocol. The literature research was conducted in the Web of Science and ERIC databases. Eight studies were selected and subsequently organised into two categories for discussion: i) AI technologies and their use in supporting students with in special education; and ii) the effects of AI on these students’ learning processes and development. The main uses of AI identified relate to personalising learning and strengthening inclusive and equitable practices, highlighting its potential to move beyond conventional pedagogical approaches.
