This study aims to analyze what empirical studies involving children in formal education (child education and early years of elementary school) reveal about notions of gender presented in situations of games. To this end, we carried out a survey of academic articles published between 2009 and 2019 in the following sources: seven journals from the Faculty of Education (FE) of the State University of Campinas (Unicamp) and the Scielo database. We obtained a total of 9 articles. Succeeding reading the articles, we organized three categories of analysis: (i) gender and teaching: implications to children's games, (ii) preferences for recreational activities and partners in game, and (iii) notions of femininity and masculinity. The analyzed studies reveal the complexity of the relations between the ludic and gender notions. Gender stereotypes appear with intensity in gendered play anda also in the discourses and mediation of educators. It is possible to perceive the game as a manifestation that accompanies the maintenance of current norms, however, playful practices can also emerge as an act of subversion to these norms.
