Introduction: Breastfeeding in the first hour of life has many benefits for both, mother and baby. However, this practice still falls short of what is expected, and it is crucial to understand the factors that hinder its implementation.
Objective: Mapping the factors that hinder breastfeeding in the first hour of life from the mother's perspective in the scientific evidence
Methods: Scoping review, based on the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology, complying with eligibility criteria based on Population, Concept, and Context
Results: Five studies were analyzed according to the eligibility criteria. The results were grouped into 3 categories: factors related to the mother, factors related to the newborn and factors related to health professionals / institutional practices.
Conclusion: Multiple factors were identified in the studies analyzed as hindering breastfeeding in the first hour of life from the mothers' perspective. Recognizing these factors is fundamental for the adoption and improvement of educational and support strategies by health professionals to overcome the difficulties experienced by mothers.
