Abstract

The present study aimed to investigate the acute effect of ischemic preconditioning on fran performance time, heart rate, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and the correlation between these variables. Twelve men completed 3 visits. One for familiarisation and 2 with randomised sessions: a) IPC (3x5 min, 220 mmHg) + 30 min interval + fran; b) SHAM (3x5 min, 20 mmHg) + 30 min + fran. Heart rate, systolic and diastolic blood pressure were measured at rest and at the 1st, 5th, and 10th minutes of recovery using the MAPA monitor. Fran is a CrossTraining workout consisting of completing 21-15-9 reps for time of thrusters (95 lb) and pull-ups as quickly as possible. Two-way ANOVA was used to analyse fran time, heart rate, systolic and diastolic blood pressure. A significance level of p≤0.05 was adopted. A reduction in heart rate was observed at all three recovery points, but no significant difference between IPC/SHAM. Reduction in systolic blood pressure at all three recovery points, with a significant reduction in IPC at the 1st minute. Reduction in DBP at the three moments of recovery, with a significant reduction in IPC at the 5th minute. No statistical difference in the fran performance time. Moderate correlation between SBP and DBP at the 1st minute of SHAM recovery. Strong correlation between SBP and DBP at the 1st minute of IPC recovery. No statistical difference in fran performance time, IPC showing more efficient behaviour in hemodynamic responses.
