The contemporary nature of a classical text has often been taken literally, as at the time of its stage realization, any text creates a communicative situation with the audience through the artistic and visual choices available in the current moment of the production. The dramaturgical work that accompanies the staging aims to ensure that this communication takes place. While current writing may not seem to require dramaturgical work to create a common ground where all participants converge, when dealing with a classical text, it becomes essential to build this space. The means, methods, and reasons are varied and circumstantial, making them difficult to enumerate. Two cases that start from the same text by António José da Silva can help us understand how to construct this common communication ground in the present.
