Abstract

The present essay deals with the rhizomatic relations that underlie the dramatic writing of Elfriede Jelinek in the 2004 work Der Tod und das Mädchen (The Death and the Maiden), and how these links weave a larger discourse on the question‑ ing that life recreates against death. In this context, some of her themes of elec‑ tion will be revisited, for example, the permanent political commitment, under which public and private are generated and grounded, which is disjointed between man and woman, reconfiguring life as a myth. This five‑part series on princesses is still an attempt to submerge “negativity” and to bring about “the inspirational weariness” of South Korean philosopher Byung‑Chul Han.
