Futsal has been growing exponentially over time and is currently one of the most widely practiced sports worldwide. It is characterized by being a fast and intense game, with abrupt changes of speed and direction, and a high level of physical contact between opponents. Consequently, futsal is one of the sports with the highest incidence of injuries, which can have a significant impact on athletes' lives in various aspects, leading to sports interruptions, pain, and physical symptoms. Additionally, it can also have repercussions on the psychological aspect, such as decreased self-esteem and increased states of anxiety. Therefore, it is pertinent to characterize and analyze the incidence of injuries in this sport, in order to consider more appropriate prevention and intervention strategies. The aim of this study was to characterize and analyze the types of injuries in female futsal athletes from Portugal. The Inquérito de Morbidade Referida (IMR) adapted to futsal was applied to 89 senior-level female athletes, with an average age of 25.2 ± 6.0 years. It was found that during the 20/21 and 21/22 sports seasons, a total of 98 injuries occurred. The most frequent type of injury was joint injury, specifically ankle sprains (27.1%), which is consistent with previous literature. The most frequent mechanism of injury was sudden stopping (21.2%), the most frequent anatomical location of injury was the foot (22.4%), and the majority of athletes returned to training based on symptomatology (55.3%). It can be concluded that most injuries occur in the lower limbs, with a high incidence in the foot. The implementation of techniques to reduce the incidence of injuries and their repercussions is recommended, including specific programs to prevent ankle sprains and mindfulness programs.
