PERCEPTIONS AND MOTIVATIONS OF MODAL CHOICE AMONG SUBURBAN COMMUTING MOTHERS

Resumo

O objetivo deste estudo é compreender a escolha modal das mães que viajam de trabalho para um local suburbano. A análise leva em conta as viagens relacionadas a todas as atividades diárias que eles fazem e não apenas as viagens diárias. No entanto, o fato de ter uma viagem intermunicipal ao trabalho é crucial, pois condiciona outras viagens. Usando 15 entrevistas em profundidade, nos concentramos nos sentimentos, percepções e crenças expressas pelos entrevistados sobre suas escolhas modais usuais e alternativas de transporte existentes. Todos os participantes viajam para um nó de atividade suburbana na Região Metropolitana de Barcelona (Espanha). Compreender a experiência deste grupo populacional específico pode ser útil para os políticos na criação de programas e políticas eficazes destinados a substituir o uso de carros por meios de transporte mais sustentáveis.

Monika Maciejewska, Geography Department, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona

Monika Maciejewska is PhD candidate at Research Group on Mobility, Transport and Territory (GEMOTT) in the Geography Department at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. She works on Daily Mobility Patterns from a gender perspective, especially seeking to understand the conditioning factors of female travel behavior. She has conducted research in Department of Geography & GIS at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (USA) and at York University (Canada)

Carme Miralles-Guasch, Geography Department, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona

Dr. Carme Miralles-Guasch is full Professor in Human Geography (Head Department) and Institute of Environmental Science and Technology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. She is a principal investigator in research projects on mobility, transport and city, and member of various consultative bodies including The Council for Mobility of Catalonia, the Barcelona Mobility Pact, the Expert Group on Housing (Catalonia) and the Andalusian Observatory on Urban Planning. She was a member of the Spanish Parliament 2000–2004 and member of its Committee on Infrastructures and Housing as well as director of the Barcelona Institute of Regional and Metropolitan Studies.
