The 2030 FIFA World Cup will be held for the first time across six countries and three continents. A century after the first World Cup, Spain, Portugal, and Morocco are embarking on the tripartite organisation of one of the most significant global sporting events. This collaboration is taking place in celebration of the centenary of the competition, also involving the symbolic and inaugural participation of Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay. In this context, 22 authors from various disciplines, coordinated by Hassan Arabi from the Mohammed I University of Nador and Azeddine Ettahri from the Mohammed V University of Rabat, produced a joint essay in 2024 entitled Cultural and Sports Diplomacy: New Concepts and Horizons, which provides an in-depth exploration of sports diplomacy. Prefaced by Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication of Morocco, this work analyzes the cross-cutting interests and perspectives arising between the three organising countries, which have become a vital link and a transit zone between Europe and Africa. This academic work delves into the complexities and opportunities presented by the collaboration between these nations, highlighting how sport can serve as a strategic tool in diplomacy and international relations, promoting understanding and cooperation between diverse cultures.
