Abstract

Introduction: Healthcare professionals are continually exposed to high levels of stress, particularly emergency room nurses. Occupational stress is a worrying phenomenon, recognized as an important public health problem, with an impact on the physical, mental, emotional and psychological well-being of employees.

Objective: Map and analyze the predictors of stress in nurses who work in the emergency service.

Methods: Scoping review study, using the method proposed by the Joanna Briggs Institute, with the following research question: What are the predictors of stress in nurses who work in the emergency service? The inclusion criteria were studies written in portuguese and english, in full text, that cover the topic under study. The data was extracted to the Rayyan platform, with the selection of studies, extraction and synthesis of data by three independent researchers, with recourse to the fourth, in case of disagreement.

Results: Seven articles were included in the period between 2019 and 2022. This research identified precarious work environment, fatigue, interventions at an organizational level, the hospital context, resilience and exposure to violence as stress predictors.

Conclusion: The importance of targeted interventions to mitigate occupational stress and promote the well-being of these health professionals is highlighted, contributing to the quality of care provided. We anticipate that this study will guide future interventions in this area.
