Introduction: Bloodstream infections associated with central venous catheters (CVCs) can be prevented by adhering to the bundle of Interventions defined by the Directorate-General for Health.
Objective: To assess nurses' self-perception regarding compliance with the bundle of interventions for preventing CVC-related infection and to analyze associations with sociodemographic and professional variables.
Methods: Quantitative, cross-sectional, correlational study with convenience sampling (n=77). An electronic questionnaire was applied, consisting of sociodemographic/professional characterization and a 14-item Likert scale (1 = “Never” to 5 = “Always”), based on the DGS audit instrument, to assess self-perception of compliance with interventions.
Results: The overall mean was 4.22 (SD=0.43), indicating compliance “Often.” Nurses with specific training had higher means and statistically significant differences in components such as selection of CVCs with fewer lumens, use of maximum barrier, hand hygiene before manipulation, aseptic technique in dressing, and dressing change with compresses within 48 hours. Age and experience were positively correlated with several practices, with a moderate correlation with aseptic technique and weaker associations with hand hygiene and dressing changes when indicated.
Conclusion: Self-perceived adherence to the bundle was high, with lower perceived compliance in the daily assessment of the need for CVC removal. Specific training and greater experience were associated with better scores on some items, reinforcing the importance of targeted and standardized training strategies. Studies with observational measures and probabilistic samples are recommended to strengthen the evidence.
