Introduction: Maintaining normothermia is an essential surgical safety measure and forms part of the Care Bundle for the prevention of Surgical Site Infection (SSI). Variability in practice and the lack of standardisation justify the need to map the available evidence on nursing interventions within this field.
Objective: To map the scientific evidence on nursing interventions that promote normothermia during the perioperative period, identifying the methods, resources and existing knowledge gaps.
Method: Scoping Review conducted according to the Joanna Briggs Institute Manual for Evidence Synthesis (2024). The search was performed in the CINAHL Complete, MEDLINE Complete, and SCOPUS databases, complemented by grey literature in the RCAAP repository. Studies in Portuguese, English and Spanish published up to 2024 were included.
Results: A total of 18 studies were included, highlighting risk factors for perioperative hypothermia and a range of thermoregulation strategies. The most frequently described interventions were prewarming, active and passive warming, and multimodal prevention programmes. Methodological heterogeneity and a scarcity of European studies were observed.
Conclusion: The mapping highlighted the diversity of nursing interventions promoting perioperative normothermia and emphasised the need for practice standardisation, staff training, and further research exploring the relationship between normothermia and SSI prevention within the national context.
