Introduction: The provision of high-quality nursing care to people with alimentary ostomy is a clinical challenge, which requires systematized practices, continuous training, and monitoring of results. Clinical auditing is a structured strategy for the evaluation and continuous improvement of the quality of care.
Objective: To evaluate the improvement in the quality of nursing care provided to people with alimentary ostomy, after the implementation of specific measures within the scope of a quality improvement project.
Methods: A retrospective quantitative study based on the documentary analysis of nursing records related to the provision of care to people with alimentary ostomy, using clinical auditing. The processes for the year 2022 and for the 2023-2024 biennium were evaluated, comparing previously defined quality indicators.
Results: There was a consistent improvement in the indicators evaluated, namely in tube monitoring and maintenance, ostomy care, enteral feeding management, and health education aimed at the person and/or informal caregiver, with reinforcement of training for self-care and adherence to the therapeutic plan.
Conclusion: The implementation of quality improvement projects supported by clinical auditing has demonstrated a positive impact on the quality and safety of nursing care, constituting an effective strategy for the standardization of practices and optimization of care outcomes.
