Introduction: Implementing interventions that promote autonomy and health among older adults is essential in contemporary healthcare.
Objective: Evaluate the effectiveness of a nursing rehabilitation program (NRP) in response to effort and quality of life in institutionalized elderly.
Methods: A quantitative, descriptive-correlational, quasi-experimental single-group study with pre- and post-testing. A non-probabilistic convenience sample of 26 institutionalized older adults was selected. The RNP was implemented and assessed using a sociodemographic and clinical protocol, the Modified Medical Research Council Dyspnea Scale, the 6-Minute Walk Test, the Barthel Index, and the SF-36v2 Questionnaire.
Results: Following program implementation, significant improvements were observed in effort response (with reduced dyspnea) and health-related quality of life, particularly in physical, mental, and social dimensions.
Conclusion: The NRP proved to be effective in enhancing effort response and quality of life among older adults, supporting the need for regular and systematic implementation of such programs by rehabilitation nursing specialists.
