About the Journal

AIM AND SCOPE

Sinais de Cena - Revista de Estudos de Teatro e Artes Performativas (Performing Arts and Theatre Studies Journal) publishes new research on the Performing Arts and Theatre Studies in open access, on the principle that freely available scientific knowledge to the public supports a greater democratization of knowledge.

An annual journal, specialised in theatre and performing arts studies, it is produced by the Centre for Theatre Studies (CET) of the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon (FLUL), in collaboration with the Portuguese Association of Theatre Critics (APCT).

The sections dedicated to essay production (“Thematic Dossier” and “Essays (Applied Studies)”) are peer reviewed. In these sections, articles can be published in Portuguese, English, French, Spanish and Italian. Each essay must have a title, an abstract, five keywords in two languages, as well as an author’s biographical note.

The quality control of submitted manuscripts is carried out by an editor, an editorial committee and two double blind peer-reviewed opinions.

The remaining permanent sections – “Portfolio”, “Interview”, "Performance Reviews" and “Book Reviews" – provide documentation, debate, analysis and evaluation of what has been done in the field of theatre – and other performing arts – in its multiple creative aspects, both in Portugal (its primary focus) and around the world. In each issue, these sections are coordinated by two members of the Editorial Board and are not subject to peer review.
