The article discusses a theater play written and directed by José Celso Martinez Corrêa about the renowned actress Cacilda Becker. The actress, who passed away in 1969, was acclaimed for her performances in the context of Brazilian modern theater during the 1950s and 1960s. In preparing a theatrical biography of Cacilda Becker, the author doesn't limit themselves to the mere objective facts of the actress's life. They freely recreate many aspects of the history of theater and Brazilian culture during the period in which she lived, also delving into contemporary theater in its dual dimension, both aesthetic and political. The play premiered at the headquarters of the Teatro Oficina (Theater Workshop) in the city of São Paulo in 1998. The play is part of a cycle created and directed by the author around the life of the actress and her historical moment.
