This essay, resulting from the Theories of Performing Arts Seminar, has as its object the theatre performance Orlando, staged by the British Katie Mitchell and on tour in Lisbon during April 2023. Based on the text by Virginia Woolf that inspires the performance and on the feminist criticism by Jill Dolan and other supporting readings, we reflect on how the show is inserted in Mitchell's already long career (her own aesthetics) and, in a broader sense, how this particular performance can open paths for a questioning about mimesis, theatricality and the place of the spectator. In this sense, we propose a reading, analysis, and reflection on this particular performance, starting from the situated experience of the spectator who is simultaneously the author of this essay. It is, therefore, both a feminist essay and an essay of auto-theory.
