Declaration of ethics and good publication practices

DECLARATION OF ETHICS AND GOOD PRACTICES IN OUR PUBLICATION

Sinais de Cena - Performing Arts and Theatre Studies Journal is a journal with peer reviewing, committed to ensuring the highest ethical standards and good deontological publication practices. All parties involved (authors, editors and reviewers) must contribute to ensuring that standards of ethical behaviour, academic honesty and integrity are guaranteed. The journal Sinais de Cena follows the guidelines of the Code of Conduct and Rules of Good Practice for Journal Editors of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) (available at http://publicationethics.org/).

The different parties must, therefore, ensure the following:

Editor and Editorial Board

The Editor and Editorial Board are responsible for determining the specificity of the Thematic Dossier in each issue, the focus of each section of the journal and defining the article submission schedule. It is also up to the Editor and Editorial Board to accept, reject or request changes to articles submitted to the journal, taking into account the reports of the peer reviewers. It is also their responsibility to ensure that each article is evaluated solely on the basis of its academic merit and that information relating to submitted articles is only disclosed to peer reviewers or other editorial advisors, when appropriate. The use of unpublished information by members of editorial bodies in their research activity without the author’s express consent is strictly prohibited. The Editor and the Editorial Board must adopt appropriate response measures whenever complaints regarding the ethics underlying an article submission or publication process are presented.

Authors

Authors must guarantee that the articles they submit are original and that any contributions from other authors or sources used are duly accredited and referenced. Any form of plagiarism is unacceptable. Authors must not submit the same article simultaneously to more than one publication and the author responsible for the exchange of correspondence with the journal must ensure that all co-authors approve the final version of the article and its submission for publication to the journal. The articles must also be objective, comprehensive and satisfy state of the art requirements.

Peer Reviewers

Peer Reviewers must guarantee confidentiality during the reviewing process; identify any possible conflicts of interest; and not use the ideas obtained through the reviewing process for personal benefit. The evaluation must be objective and the recommendations must be supported by solid arguments, in keeping with the evaluation grid provided by the Editorial Board, so that the authors can improve their texts. Relevant publications should be recommended when they are not cited. The established deadlines must be respected.
