  • Nr. 5 (June 2006)

The fifth issue of Sinais de Cena highlights in its thematic dossier the exposition of the reasons that led the jury of the Portuguese Association of Theatre Critics to award the Prize and Special Mentions for the previous year. Portfolio brings together a vast set of photographs of shows based on texts by Beckket and lists – exhaustively and in chronological order – Beckett's stagings that were presented in Portugal. In News from outside the country, the Europe Theatre Award, awarded to Harold Pinter and the Congress of the International Association of Theatre Critics stand out, as well as articles on Latin theatre in New York; what was seen in Montréal, Quèbec, as part of the Youth Arts Congress and Festival; the perspective that a Westerner can have of the theatre that is performed in Korea today and an article on Mathew Barney. Applied Studies combine a critical reflection on the work of Fernando Amado and a brief incursion into Beckett's texts. An interview with Fernanda Lapa is included. Critical essays on performances, together with the thematic dossier and academic articles, continue to structure the identity of this publication, aimed at all those interested in the performing arts.

  • Nr. 4 (December 2005)

The fourth issue of Sinais de Cena highlights the attention given to foreign dramaturgy – in reaction to the Nobel Prize awarded to playwright Harold Pinter. In the case of the Centre for Theatre Studies, the recent organization (last April) of the conferences on the “History of Theater and New Technologies” brought articles by Marvin Carlson (currently at the City University of New York), and Erika Fischer- Lichte (from the Free University of Berlin), in this issue translated, occupying both the “Network” and “Applied Studies” headings. Also noteworthy is the interview with João Paulo Seara Cardoso, revealing a curious and lucid excavation of memory to talk about his passionate connection to a theatre with puppetry. The Loose Archive recalls the Teatro Novo project by António Ferro and includes a Portfolio dedicated to Teatro Experimental de Cascais and the celebration of its 40th anniversary. Critical essays on performances, together with the thematic dossier and academic articles, continue to structure the identity of this publication, aimed at all those interested in the performing arts.

  • Nr. 3 (June 2005)

The third issue of Sinais de Cena follows the editorial line outlined at the opening of the magazine, this time dedicated to celebrations: starting with the Critics Prize, which the jury of the Portuguese Association of Theatre Critics awarded, in its plural face and in its various foundations. Other celebrations – all centenary – occupy this issue: the death of Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro, the formation among us of companies that aimed to fulfill the program that Antoine proposed of naturalism in theatre: the Teatro Livre (1904) and the Teatro Moderno (1905), the place where Irish theatre was invented at the beginning of the 20th century: the Abbey Theatre; and that of Chekov (due to the date of his death in 1904). For the Loose Archive, the inventor of Zé Povinho is remembered, in addition to the “News from outsider the country” that reports on the multiple activities promoted in Dublin at the end of 2004. A list of theatre publications is also drawn up in this issue. Critical essays on performances, together with the thematic dossier and academic articles, continue to structure the identity of this publication, aimed at all those interested in the performing arts.

  • Nr. 2 (December 2004)

The second issue of Sinais de Cena follows the editorial line outlined at the opening of the magazine, this time dedicated mainly to Portuguese theatrical practice. News from outside, critical essays on shows, along with the Thematic Dossier, academic articles and the Loose Archive (this time dedicated to Teatro Avenida), continue to structure the identity of this publication, aimed at all those interested in the performing arts. . Attention to the Portuguese reality emerges in an interview with Manuela de Freitas. If in Applied Studies one still talks about the Portuguese reality, in the article that Luiz Francisco Rebello writes about theatre magazines, João Maria André already talks, in a global panorama, about the issue of the body and pain in the performing arts, while the British director Alexander Kelly writes a brief testimony about his practice of teaching role-playing, and French playwright Patrice Pavis judiciously and systematically addresses the general issue of role-playing. Portfolio recalls and celebrates – in images – the 30 years of existence of O Bando.

  • Nr. 1 (June 2004)

The inaugural issue is dedicated to the presentation of Sinais de Cena as a magazine resulting from the efforts and wishes of the Portuguese Association of Theatre Critics (APCT) and the Centre for Theatre Studies of the University of Lisbon (CET). It includes a thematic dossier dedicated to the first public presentation of the renewed Portuguese Association of Theater Critics: the attribution of the Critics Prize and Special Mentions, as well as an interview with Pedro Penim and a Loose Archive dedicated to the actor Taborda. From outside, news arrives of a show by Mnouchkine, as well as a Spanish magazine of great quality and truly international scope, and even a book in German on theatre. And if the rubric “Network” takes us through this other way of accessing realities far from us (via the internet), Applied Studies develop in a more thoughtful way themes for reflection such as the historiographical excavation of Luiz Francisco Rebello and the glow of aesthetics by Georges Banu and also a brief note by José Pedro Serra on Sophocles' theatre.
